We Are Small: Possibilities Are Big – Niagara Falls

October 2, 2017 // R. Shawn McBride // No Comments »

R. Shawn McBride recently spoke about the possibilities in the world.

Hey folks, Shawn here with you today, talking about a very important idea. You know, we’re small. The world is big. So the possibilities are endless. I recently took a day and I did a hike. And I walked around Niagara Falls. And I looked at what was going on. And when you look at the enormity of the world around us and what nature provides, and you look at how small each of us is as individuals. Even the most wealthiest people, the Warren Buffetts, the Bill Gates – they’ve only taken a small portion of this tremendous wealth we have as human begins. They’ve only blocked out a very small portion of human wealth. And of course, for most of us, we’re not dealing at that scale, we’re doing it at a smaller level. So when we look at the enormity of what’s around us, we need to be able to think bigger, about the possibilities of what we can do. Because we’re just a small piece of this world. But we don’t need to be a tiny piece of this world.

We can grow and do something powerful. We can change lives, we can help people. So I want people to think bigger. Think about what’s possible, what you can do, and how, even if you do something big, nature can take it. Nature has abundance. There’s room for us and great businesses. We see other people doing it. There’s no reason that you can’t have a great business, too. And we see that when we look at the environment around us. When we look at how big everything is, we know that there’s room for us. It’s abundance thinking. We’re not fighting each other. There are not limited resources. We can all create great value, we can grow the economy, we can do wonderful things.

What does this mean for you? Practically, this means there’s room for your business in the world. Even if other people are in the marketplace. I recently talked with a business that was in a highly commoditized business. Yet, they’ve carved out a huge business and grown it for 35 years because they do it differently than others.

How are you doing things differently? How are you creating tremendous value? How are you making something bigger in this enormous world? Think about it.
