R. Shawn McBride recently discussed what to do when you are out of time.
Hey folks, Shawn here with you. Are you feeling like you’re always out of time? Do you feel like there’s just not enough to get things done? Are you really struggling? Well, I can tell you from my years of experience working with many businesses and growing my own business, usually, if you’re out of time, you have one of two problems. Very simple, let’s break it down. The answer will be a little more complex, but we can really get to the root cause of the problem very quickly.
# 1 If you’re feeling like you’re out of time, you have a lack of priorities. And now this is hard to say because most people want to say, “Oh, well I know what my priorities are. I have everything in balance.” Now, if you knew exactly where you should be spending your time and how you should be allocating your time, you would know exactly where to be, and you would not feel stress. You would feel like you’re in the right place, at the right time.
Many of us have difficulties because priorities move and they adjust. So, we want to have that clear 10-year vision of where we’re going, that I talk about in my other materials when we’re doing The 3 Laws of Empowerment or otherwise, we want to know where we’re going in 10 years. And if you haven’t checked that out, check out my video series R. Shawn McBride fans page on Facebook or McBride for Business YouTube. And we really talk about having that clear 10-year vision. Moving from that clear 10-year vision to individual days, weeks and months. We know what’s important, and we know what’s not important. Now, things will shift. Things will happen unexpectedly. Those will cause stresses, but then we need to get back to our priorities. And that’s how we’re going to get back on track of being happy again.
If you’re feeling that stress, don’t know what to do, don’t know what to do first. It’s a lack of priorities. You’ve got to figure out what the priorities are. What’s most important to you and your future? And it can be hard. Some things are indeterminate, right? You don’t know what some things are going to return and what some things aren’t. But get back to priorities.
# 2 If you’re feeling this kind of stress, you may have trouble saying no. A lot of people that feel stressed, overwhelmed, or out of time, have a hard time saying no. They can’t say no to that friend that’s asking to go to dinner. They can’t say no to that client that asks for a little favor. They can’t say no to that business friend that needs a little extra help on a project. So, learning your boundaries and getting to say no, will make a huge difference in getting your time under control.
So, it’s really two things. Look back. I almost can guarantee that any of time stresses you’re having are either a lack of priority or the inability to say no. So, look at your root cause. What’s causing it in your world, and how can you do better?
