R. Shawn McBride recently spoke about being lucky or being prepared.
Hey folks, Shawn here with you talking about lucky you. Recently, somebody said to me, “Hey, lucky you. Opportunities are following your way, you’re very, very lucky.” And I have a question for you about life. I mean is it luck or is it preparation?
There’s one definition of luck that says preparation meets opportunity. And one thing I’ve found is the more hard work I do, the more effort I put into life, the more luck comes along. And I think a lot of people have had this experience over the years. It is a matter of preparing yourself for opportunities. There are a lot of bad opportunities that come my way, but there are also great opportunities that come my way. And it’s all about making our luck and building what we’re doing.
Sure there’s some random chance, we don’t know when different events are going to happen, particularly when other people are involved. We don’t know exactly when our message is going to resonate, we don’t know if we go to that cocktail party if that next great client’s going to be there. These are random events. But, if you’re presenting yourself in a valuable light, if you have a great product or service and if you’re positioning yourself in places where your potential clients are likely going to be, guess what? You have a very good chance of having luck because all of that’s going to come together and that one cocktail party you go to, your client’s going to be there and you’re going to sign that big contract. It’s all about getting positioned for luck.
If you have friends who are struggling with them, let them know, let them see this message, let them know that there’s hope out there. It’s a matter of constantly positioning yourself to be where luck can happen. Do the right things and the right things will happen to you and you will start building momentum and luck will happen, and more luck will happen after that luck. So it’s really about getting that ball rolling the right way.
