R. Shawn McBride spoke about creating controversy.
Hi, folks. Shawn here with you. I love sharing entrepreneurial lessons with you, as I built my business, and I’ve helped countless others build their businesses, I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way.
Today, one of the lessons I want to talk about is when you are stirring up controversy when other people are starting to like or dislike what you’re doing, you’re onto something, so if you’re doing something, and some people say it’s great, some people say it’s horrible, people start disagreeing, you’re onto something.
If you’re just out there maintaining the status quo, keeping everybody happy, not ruffling any feathers, you’re not doing enough. If your business is active and real, you’re going to get a controversy. You’re going to have different opinions.
Some people are going to think what you’re doing is great. Some people are going to think it’s misguided. Some people are going to like you. Some people are going to hate you. This is okay. You really want to be liked a lot or loved by a very small percentage of people. That will lead to great things for you. Trying to be liked by everybody is going to be a killer, so you want to really find that, and if you do some particular activity and some people think it’s great, but a small percentage of people say it was horrible, they didn’t like your message, they didn’t like the way you presented it, guess what? You’re onto it. You’re on the path of success because you’re stirring up controversy. You’re getting people emotional. They’re thinking about what you’re saying. You are being a leader, and you’re impacting the marketplace, so keep on it. You’re showing progress. Don’t give up.
So if you’re creating controversy, good. Congratulations. Let me know what controversy you’re creating. Let me know how you’re shaking it up. Drop me a note. The R.
