R. Shawn McBride recently spoke about surrounding yourself with only good people.
Hey, folks, Shawn here with you, talking about something that might sound conceited, but I hope it isn’t. You know, I’ve earned the right to only have good people in my life, and I start seeing this with my friendships, with my clients, and with others that are around me. I filter; I pick only the best people. I only want those that are doing amazing things in my universe and in my orbit, and more and more, I get to be selective. I get to pick. The phone rings with more clients than I have time to work with. Many of them aren’t a good fit. They don’t have the right personality set, we aren’t going to work well together, or their event is not my type of audience, and I get to say no, and I get to pick the good people. I get to look and say, “Does this person have the personality and temperament and style of the person I want to work with?” I get to pick. I’ve earned that right.
It’s taken a long time for people to get to know who I am, to build my reputation in the marketplace and do good things and I keep surrounding myself with great people, every step of the way. So, I’ve earned that right, and others can earn that right too. In fact, it’s just an affirmative choice. Start today. Start selecting who you really want to be around. Filter out the bad; keep the good. Build something more. You’ve earned that right, based on your reputation, based on your skill, based on what you bring to the marketplace. Be that person. Do more. Add to the world.
