Hey folks, R. Shawn McBride with you here live. And this is your wake up call. For some of you, you are sleeping on the job. You are going through the motions in life and you’re not doing the things you wanna do. You are listening to what other people are telling you to do, you’re not taking control, and you’re not being effective.
Take a minute. Stop. Do you have a ten year plan? Do you know where you’re going to be 10 years from now? What does your life look like and how much of that is intentionally you, and your intentionality versus what other people are telling you to do?
I work with a lot of executives including CEO’s of powerful companies. And when you ask them where they wanna be in ten years, some of them know clearly, many of them don’t. Two to three years out a lot of people have very clear visions, they know where they’re going. But you know what, that two to three year vision is often dictated by your starting point. Where you are now. Because in two to three years, it takes you a while to move your direction. But if you make a 10 year vision you can do a lot in 10 years. You can make some really strategic decisions. You can really adjust your path, and your direction. So we want to be intentional. We want to know where we are 10 years from now.
How many of you have stopped . . . and I don’t care whether it’s a dream, vision board, or written plan, or even a really clear idea in your mind of where you wanna be in 10 years. How many of you have stopped and done that work? If you haven’t, I challenge you to stop and do it today. Take at least 10 or 15 minutes and start planning where you want to be.
Now you’re gonna have to work on this and refine it. And what I want for each of you is a really clear dream and vision about the future. Where are you going . . . where do you wanna be? When you have that clear dream and vision you can start making a lot of decisions. Does this fit in my 10 year plan? Does it not fit in my 10 year plan? Even the two to three year old, two to three year forward goals can be changed. Because if it doesn’t fit your 10 year plan, go a slightly different direction in the next two to three years.
Really get intentional. Maybe you haven’t done this yet. If you haven’t done the work, then . . . stop . . . clear vision . . . 10 years. And I mean very clear. Location, family, how you’re interfacing with others. I really want you to understand what 10 years from now looks like with great clarity. Take that and work backwards to what you’re gonna do today or tomorrow, or next week or next year. But everything you’re doing now should be in some way consistent with that 10 year plan.
Some of you are locked into a path. You’re on some rails. Now continuing down that path may be consistent with the 10 year plan because you need to transition from where you are to where you’re going. I’m not saying drop everything and go a completely different direction. That’s unrealistic. But I’m saying start taking intentional efforts to where you wanna be.
Wake up. Take control. I’m R.
