R. Shawn McBride recently spoke about having a great plan in business.
Hey, folks, it’s Shawn here with you and I want to talk about the steps to make a great plan. You know, my keynote to The Three Laws of Empowerment talks about building plans, and its three steps: it’s preparing, planning, and protecting.
So, how do we build really great plans? How do we build really exceptional plans that really have a chance of working? What are the steps? People are always asking me, “what are the right steps for a plan?”
Well, number one we need to have a dream, we have to have a vision. That’s kind of the preparation, we need to know where we’re going with the plan.
Then, we need to figure out what the steps are. We’re gonna break down the plan into individual steps, where you do this, this, this, this, and this. Move towards our plan. Once we have the plans now the hard part comes.
Step three, we need to figure out what needs to change. And this is going to require some introspection and some thought because if you were able to get where you want to go, you’d already be there. So, something has to change. You need some additional training, you need a different mindset, you need to somehow break out of something. You need to get resources, you need to pair up with somebody. Something needs to change.
Once you have these three steps down, now we set a timeline.
And the fifth step is adjustments. Now we’re gonna work back through the plan. So, it’s a very simple way to come up with a plan, right? We have a dream and a vision, a set ten-year plan or more, of where we’re going. Once we know where we’re going, then we want to set the steps. How do we incrementally get there? Then we want to figure out what needs to change. There’s something that needs to be changed, or else we’d already have those achievements and success. Timeline, adjust it then refine it. Step five is you’re gonna have to refine it. I guarantee the first or second time you go through all this, not everything is gonna fit together. So, you’re really gotta work through it.
What plans are you working on? What dreams do you have? I’d love to hear in the comments. I’d love for you to reach out to me and let me know what you’re doing. I want to hear. We’re getting this community going here, we’re all in this together. What plans are you working on? How can we help you? Reach out, let me know what questions you have.
