Good morning, everybody. I’m Shawn McBride with you live from Tampa, Florida so if you’re watching this, drop me a note let me know where you’re watching from, would love to see what’s going on out there. Today I want to talk about building your teams and keeping the same culture.

I think this is an issue a lot of us deal with. How do we grow but then not change who we are? That is something that we’re dealing with right now. We’ve just added a couple of people this week. We need some more operational support to grow with our clients and our speaking business so we added some folks, but how do you do that in a way that keeps your culture? It’s a new issue for me so I can’t say I’ve been through this too many times. We have grown before and kept the culture but this is a bigger expansion, two people in one week and some other changes, so we spent a lot of time talking to people about how to grow and how to grow properly.

One of the things we said was, “How are we going to keep this culture? How are we going to keep it the same?” We’ve worked with our business coaches and one thing we did was we spent a lot of time thinking about who we are and what we are. We’re doing that as part of our business, but specifically, now, we’re looking at, “How do we communicate who we are? How do we help understand who we are? How do we document who we are?” So we’ve got that for the new employees so they’re seeing who we are in the documentation, so we’re embracing that. We’re helping them come on board with what we are, and embracing the culture that we have. We think we have communicated the culture. It’s going to be an experiment for us. We’re going to learn as we go. We’re going to see more stuff as we learn, but I think that’s going to be key for us.

I’d love to hear what your questions are and what thoughts you have about your culture and how you’ve maintained your culture through growth, because we’re all in this together. I know a big struggle for a lot of businesses is deciding when you should add that employee. But now after you have added that employee how do you keep the culture the same? It’s the struggle we’re dealing with now, that I know a lot of other people have dealt with. Very smart advice was told to us to make sure that we’re using that same culture, we’re communicating who we are, what we do, what are values are, and how we process things. We’re going to use that as our system. I would love to know your system.

If these thoughts are of value to you please share. Please comment, let me know what you’re struggling with so we can help you. And let all the people know about this page and that we’re a resource that can help you. I’d love to know what the struggles are so looking forward to talking to you all again soon. Shawn McBride signing off from Tampa, Florida. Hope to chat with you all soon. Let me know what your culture struggles are and how we can help you.
