One of the hardest parts of good strategic planning is doing it. And then doing it regularly.
For many companies, and many of our clients, taking the first step is hard. It can be overwhelming to try to bring many ideas together and get focused on one (or a few) for your company’s future.
And the step after that can be even harder – making regular time for planning and updates.
And it’s a lot like working out at the gym. Doing it once might help a little. You transform your body by making it a regular event.
For your organization the same goes. Regular time working on your strategic plan can make all the difference.
So how do you make time for this new activity?
Make no doubt – we are talking about the potential survival of your company. This is important!
So that means getting out the calendar and making time for planning and update. Not just once but periodically. If you really want to get it right I recommend meetings at least quarterly with work to prepare in between meetings.
“This Is Overwhelming”
Getting good at planning is a muscle you have to build.
Like anything unfamiliar it takes time to get used to.
So what do you do if it’s overwhelming and you see the need? Get help!
A great outside advisor can keep you on a regular schedule and make sure you are doing the hard work. Another bonus is that a good advisor will help provide some outside perspectives which should make the process go better.
If you have questions on that process let us know. This is part of what we do at McBride For Business.
